But the Lord said to me,“Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord.”
Being a teenager did not disqualify what God had for the prophet Jeremiah. We believe that youth is not a handicap, but a weapon for the Kingdom. We don't believe that teens are the future of the church, we believe they are the CHURCH OF NOW. We believe they have the same Holy Spirit that lives within all the followers of Jesus. Whether it's giving words of knowledge on Sunday morning, doing the teaching on Wednesday nights, being part of the youth worship band, or impacting their peers at school, we believe that God uses teenagers in mighty ways.
We start youth group off with a time of fellowship, where students can grab a cup of hot chocolate (if its cold) and a bag of popcorn. If it's warm out, it's not unusual for us to be outside throwing a football or tossing a frisbee. After fellowship time, the students will go up to the Youth Room, where they will conduct their service until 8:30pm. Although not every youth group is the same, each service usually includes a game, teaching time, small group discussion by age and gender, a time of worship through music and then we conclude with a prayer and ministry time.
Ministry to young teens is one of the most important and life-changing ministries in the church, and is an amazing opportunity to connect young teens to Christ for a lifetime of spiritual significance. The goal for Junior High Sunday mornings is to create an atmosphere where Junior Highers can be Junior Highers and feel valued, loved and discipled. We want to normalize the changes they are going through and affirm who they are in Christ. We want to create a space where all Junior Highers would be excited to be here on Sunday morning.
Parents can check your teen in at the Children's Check-In. Your teen will stay with you in the sanctuary for the worship part of the service (until around 9:30A (1st Service) or 11:30 (2nd Service). After announcements, the Junior High Youth will be dismissed to class. The Junior High Teachers will be waiting for them in the lobby. They will then go upstairs to their class (once upstairs turn left and first door on the left - Room 211). At the conclusion of the adult service, parents can pick up their youth in Room 211.
